Quiz: Pay It or Question It? 15 Medical Bills, One Decision Each

THIS IS NOT A BILL
Provider charged: $900.00
Plan paid: $380.00
Amount you may owe: $340.00

Nothing has come from the provider yet. What is the right move?

Correct. Not quite. An EOB reports how the plan handled a claim. You never pay the insurance company for a medical service, and the EOB has no payment slip. The $340 is what the plan expects the provider to bill you. Keep the EOB and wait for that bill. When it arrives, the two should match. Notice also that $900 minus $380 is not $340. The remaining $180 is the network discount, which nobody pays.
