“I’ll skip the Medicare Supplement policy now. If I get sick later, I can buy one then.”

Is that a safe plan?

Correct!

Not quite.

This is the least known deadline in Medicare. For six months, starting when you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B, insurers must sell you any Medicare Supplement policy they offer, at the standard price, whatever your health. After that, in most states, they can ask health questions, charge more or decline. A few states guarantee access year-round. Check your state’s rule before deciding to wait.
