Not quite.
There is no family plan in Medicare. Each person qualifies separately, generally at 65. Couples run into this when the older spouse retires and the employer plan that covered both of them ends. The younger spouse then needs separate coverage until 65, through their own job, COBRA or the Marketplace. Plan for that gap before choosing a retirement date.
