Phone call“I’m a licensed agent. I can move you to a $0 premium plan with a cash-back card, effective next month. I’ll handle everything. I just need your Social Security number and your Marketplace username and password.”
Legitimate, a scam, or impossible to tell?
Correct. Not quite. Licensed agents and brokers do help people enroll, and many do it well. No legitimate agent needs your password, and none can honestly promise cash for switching. Federal regulators have reported large numbers of complaints from people whose Marketplace plans were changed without their consent, sometimes leaving them with different doctors or a tax bill. If you want help, find an agent or assister through HealthCare.gov’s own “Find Local Help” tool, and never share a login.
