Quiz: 15 Health Insurance Questions With Answers You May Not Expect

Question 5 of 15

Keeping a trusted doctor is the main reason people renew without looking. A plan’s name can stay the same while the list of doctors behind it changes.

Your doctor is in your plan’s network this year, and you are renewing the same plan. What should you assume about next year?

Correct. Not quite. Contracts between insurers and providers are renegotiated regularly, and a doctor or hospital can be in a network one year and out the next. Search the directory for the coming plan year using the exact plan name, then confirm with the doctor’s billing office by giving them that name. Asking “do you take this insurance company?” is not enough, because one insurer can run several different networks.
